It appears I have experienced practically every facet Montana has to offer from sub zero freezing snow to stunningly beautiful clear big skies matched with pleasant breezes.
As much as I have enjoyed sending these reports this is my 60th report, this shall be my final report for this season. I hope I have giving perhaps a small insight into the ever changing weather and wildlife in this wild and rugged state, and I hope you have enjoyed reading them even half as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I thank you all for your patience and support in this most fascinating endeavor to provide both written and photographic evidence of Montana’s weather.
I have made a good new friend in The Weather Rockette, and I know she has the potential to go far- perhaps in spite of my humble training.
(Note from the Weather Rockette: I cannot express what a wonderful job The Weather Rock has done with my training. I look forward to spending the next months and hopefully years with him.)

I am also happy to have tried to give you some insight as to the winter rituals practiced by the ever mysterious ‘Human Kind’ They perhaps will always find new and amazing ways to entertain and confuse me. But that is just the way they area.
I am attaching two photographs- one showing the weather for today and the second one of my favorites which I feel shows the beauty of Montana in a slight way- as photographs can never truly capture the majesty of it.
So it is with a semi heavy heart I give you the final weather report- Cooler this morning, 23.0 however reaching a high of 46.9 at 5 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 28.0.

I will hold all of you in deep esteem and I with you all the best.

The Weather Rock and Weather Rockette

Wednesday January 24th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbm4LINRmwI/AAAAAAAAAMY/ledLcFhYPJ4/s400/WeatherRockJan24th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024249360629734146" />

The Weather Rock Report
Wednesday January 24th 2007
Location: The Townsend Cabin, Townsend MT

A beautiful clear and spring like day today. It feels colder then the previous day due to the higher humidity and heavier breezes I suppose. 34.0 this morning reaching a high of 41.0 at 4 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 33.1. Perhaps there will be snow in the forecast, yet the clouds would need to thicken up more before that would happen.
The youngest son spend the late afternoon in the outbuilding right next to the house. There was much banging and sawing then after dark he and the father figure carried out a giant contraption. It was like a giant bow laying crossways attached to a stand of some sort, and when pulled back it shot a wooden stick 15 yards across the lawn. He called it a ‘ballista’.
I don’t see how this could be helpful in killing animals for food as it is much to bulky and noisy. Note the burning sticks in their hands- it appears they created them today (an improvement on the ones made yesterday, they lasted twice as long and burned brighter) and there was much excitement and jubilation. They can now use these sticks as protection from predators and lighting up the darkness. However they seem to take more enjoyment by swinging them around wildly in a show of power, and noise delights them also. They seemed to enjoy themselves very much again today, and we enjoyed watching their wild antics.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Saturday January 20th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbm2y4NRmrI/AAAAAAAAALg/t2kg7HqplZQ/s400/WeatherRockJan20th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024247844506278578" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday January 20th 2007
Location: The Townsend Cabin, Townsend MT

Well it seems sometimes predictions can come true, even concerning the weather. It snowed this midmorning leaving 1 inch of soft snow on the ground. However as you can see in the photographic evidence that by 4:20 PM it has mostly melted or was blown away by the wind.
Because of the unseasonable warmth, the family started in the backyard some sort of ritual called a ‘camp fire’ it seems them having a fire inside wasn’t enough work for them so they started another outside in the back yard. They cooked plain tasting ceremonial food over the open flames- and they built a second fire for warmth. They would then dish the hot food onto cold metal plates and try to eat the food before it cooled. It seems that while outside in 30 degree weather the outside would become very cold yet the inside of the meat was still hot enough to cause great discomfort. They also seemed to stand in the smoke a lot (which proved difficult as the wind kept changing directions)and added great bunches of juniper and grass that would smoke heavily then flair up brightly showering sparks- all as a sort of purification rite I suppose. As it grew dark I expected them to go inside but it wasn’t until 9 PM that their festivities ended. They dumped a bucket of purified water on the fires signified the end of the world then went inside in high spirits.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Friday January 19th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbm2e4NRmqI/AAAAAAAAALY/_1Z_St3LgTM/s400/WeatherRockJan19th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024247500908894882" />

The Weather Rock Report
Friday January 19th 2007
Location: The Townsend Cabin, Townsend MT

Partly cloudy clearing as the day progressed. This time however they were kind enough to transport my new companion the Weather Rockette. In celebration I will be giving her the honor of writing this report.

Greetings, I am the Weather Rockette and this is my first report. I would like to thank the ever wise and all knowing Weather Rock for training me, this has been a dream of mine for some time to be in this field of work. However as the Weather Rock is suggesting I must give a report on the weather.
It was bright, or sunny today. Here in Townsend there is no snow, which means everything looks browner. I miss the view of the mountains however this area holds it’s own charm. We are in a canyon and the rock walls on wither side are comforting, and the trees are very pretty to look at. I am enjoying my new post. Oh, yes back to the weather- much warmer up here 24.1 degrees this morning reaching a high of 32.0 and right now the temperature is 26.1.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Wednesday January 17th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbm1FoNRmnI/AAAAAAAAAK0/8HDxgY2eow0/s400/WeatherRockJan17th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024245967605570162" />

The Weather Rock Report
Wednesday January 17th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Well it seems that my wish for clouds was granted today- however they were to thick to take decent photographic evidence. This morning there were very thick low clouds and by 10 AM it started snowing. It started with small flurries that grew to larger flakes and it looked like we were in for quite a long storm, however by 11:30 AM the sky cleared completely and the storm was over, leaving an inch and a half of fluffy snow. Then at 4 PM it clouded over again giving the appearance of an early sunset and as of this writing it is still very overcast.
6.1 degrees this morning reaching a high of 26.1 at 5 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 14.0.
One of the family members (the young girl) left in the midst of the storm, it seemed she needed to go to a place to renew her rights to drive a motorized vehicle, and needed to prove she could drive in all sorts of weather. However the wisdom of her decision was that she wanted to leave before the snow turned to ice on the road- which must have been another way of gaining rank with what they call the DMV tribe for she arrived back with permission granted. I wonder what they do with the ones who don’t pass their difficult and mysterious DMV sacred forms…?

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Tuesday January 16th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbm2B4NRmoI/AAAAAAAAALA/qxPnFKeiLzk/s400/WeatherRockJan16th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024247002692688514" />

The Weather Rock Report
Tuesday January 16th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

A slight warming trend today giving a sense of false hope, however the temperature quickly plummeted back down to cooler temperatures. –2.0 this morning reaching a high of 25.0 at 5 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 6.1.
I wish the photographic evidence could accurately show the absolute beauty of the scenery situated around me. A very pretty sunset today, my only wish is there would be a few clouds in the sky- because then the light reflects off of them adding a wonderful contrast. As of this writing the temperature is –4.0. The wind has been blowing from the southeast most of the day today, between 6-8 miles per hour.
We have finally solved the mystery of what was causing the strange tracks in the snow beside and behind our station. First it was assumed to be coyotes, then dogs, cats, birds and finally the mystery was solved.
It has been a heard of deer. We managed to catch slightly blurry photographic evidence of them, and that is the photograph of the day. You can see one of their eyes reflecting in the shot.
They appear to be using the house as a sort of wind block, and have enjoyed trying to feast on some of the bushes placed in the front yard. However the family showed some uncommon sense and planted bushes that would be unpalatable to the deer.
We counted around 2 to 6 deer (we were unable to tell because it was very dark and then the family managed to startle them away.)

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Saturday January 13th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbmzm4NRmiI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/vtQbE3EQPAM/s400/WeatherRockJan13th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024244339812964898" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday January 13th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Again cold and clear today. –18.9 degrees this morning reach a high of 5.0 at 5 PM. As of this writing the temperature is –9.0 and a windchill of –20.0.
I would like to pass on some wonderful advice and a weather report I received the other day from a noted Mr. Elmtree. He resides in the start of Tennessee, and has been one of the many receiving my reports via a Mrs. Harris- who then forwarded it to me. It was a lovely surprise for me to be the receiver of this. While I would love to take credit for this lovely piece of advice all credit goes to him.

I hope you do not mind my forwardness. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mr. Elmtree and currently reside in Tennessee. Your reports have inspired me and I couldn't help but think of you when Ms. Daffodil and Ms. Lillie came to me the other day. They sought my advice and I would like to share my response with you.

"Quiet! Listen. I know I am old, as is he, and overly cautious but that is why you have come to me seeking advice.

As I look down upon you, I see that in your youth and exuberance to show the world your delicate beauty, you have sprung forth perhaps too soon. The balmy breezes and warm sun have lured you once again with the promise of an early spring. And now, that you have watched the cardinal stuff himself furiously with seed to weather the chilliness of the night, you are worried that you have acted in haste.

As for me, I have seen the coming of many new seasons. I have watched in sadness the rebirth of my new coat of green wither in their youth and fall to the ground precipitously. It was only yesterday that I whispered to them "not yet my children." For I can feel him over my shoulder and can hear his slow and steady footsteps. He has not yet quit the race.

While he is as old as the hills, it remains to be seen if he will falter and grow weary before the new and strong season can pass him by.

But then, if you should wait in cautiousness, the world will be denied your colorful and amazing splendor, and the eternal hope of an early spring. So, I say to you, "Throw caution to the wind and uncover your smiling faces. For truly, unlike me, you only live once!"
And I will spread my branches to their fullness to watch over and protect you should Old Man winter pass this way."

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Friday January 12th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RbmzZYNRmhI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/Rcy_5c6uFnY/s400/WeatherRockJan12th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024244107884730898" />

The Weather Rock Report
Friday January 12th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT</CENTER

Very, very cold and clear all day today. –18.3 this morning reaching a high of –0.0 at 4 PM today and as of this writing the temperature is –16.1 degrees. The family traversed several times to their motorized vehicles. First one would go out and start the vehicle (which has been plugged into a power cord to keep the engine warm) then around 15 minutes later there would be a mad rush of the entire family moving towards the vehicle at the fastest possible speed. However they were slowed down by the fact the doors were frozen shut. So then there would be a few moments of them franticly tugging on the doors until they would finally open. Then in a blink of an eye (figuratively speaking) they would disappear into the vehicle and slam shut the doors they tried so hard to open. Returning home they would pause a moment as if to gather courage, fling open the doors and rush to the front door and into the safety of inside.
A very entertaining moment in a long cold day.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Thursday January 11th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RbmzCYNRmgI/AAAAAAAAAJo/PkhTrm4D55I/s400/WeatherRockJan11th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024243712747739650" />

The Weather Rock Report
Thursday January 11th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

I can say with a safe conscious that today was the most unpleasant weather I have experienced so far this winter.
Snowing, very low cloud cover, –3 degrees this morning, coupled with the wind blowing at 23 miles per hour made things very cold and unpleasant. It stayed very windy, snowy, hazy, and cold all day today, clearing at 4 PM (when the photographic evidence was taken- it looks very peaceful, calm and clear yet that was not the case all of today and last night, and it was still windy when the photograph was taken) The wind was blowing so hard it swept the snow away in open places making small drifts in other places. Very fine snow, not as hard as sugar but the similar in size.
The high today was 3.1 degrees and as of this writing the temperature is –8.2 with a 10 mile per hour wind-chill factor making it feel as if it is –25 degrees.
Winter has stuck once again, I am surprised that only 2 days ago it felt as if spring had arrived with a high of 53.2 degrees.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Wednesday January 10th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbmyp4NRmfI/AAAAAAAAAJg/ofG9SgRZd-A/s400/WeatherRockJan10th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024243291840944626" />

The Weather Rock Report
Wednesday January 10th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

46.0 degrees this morning, which was also the high for today. Partly sunny and windy this morning yet it was appearing that it was going to be a repeat of the day before. Slightly thick cloud cover interspaced with bright patches of sunlight. I have attached photographic evidence of the sun breaking through the clouds in a very dramatic fashion. You may view this by observing the light in the upper North- North West.
The snow once again is melting away, 42.1 degrees this morning reaching a high of 43.0 at 3 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 30.0.
An interesting fact, because of the very apparent melting and refreezing where ever the tires of motorized transportation vehicles have compacted the snow it has melted and refrozen into very dense and slippery ice.
I consider Ice a semi-cousin of mine, very hard, most often appearing in shades of grey and blue and very beautiful. I do consider it a flighty type however, it never seems to saty in once place for long and turns into the ever unpredictable water.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Sunday January 7th 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RbmycYNRmeI/AAAAAAAAAJU/qnNgMvof8T8/s400/WeatherRockJan7th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024243059912710626" />

The Weather Rock Report
Sunday January 7th 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Cool and overcast today with a slight wind. 21.0 this morning reaching a high of 39.9 at 5 PM. It snowed briefly yet the wind was blowing so strongly it didn’t have a chance to stick to the ground.
All in all it was the windiest day here in my experience this winter. They prepared themselves by the wearing of many layers of ceremonial clothing, head coverings, and hand coverings. Then taking us with them they headed to the sacred place.
The road to the area was icy and covered in snow through a semi narrow canyon, (I assume to make it harder for the less devout to make it to the place) and after driving for 35 minutes they arrived.
They went and using money for their first offering rented long thin polished pieces of an unknown wood like substance yet much more flexible and light called ‘skis’. They also acquired hard heavy boots that encased their feet and ankles firmly and prevented them from walking any faster then a measured hobble- another way of showing respect I assume.
Then taking thin poles that would click into the specially made boots into the attachments on the ‘skis’ and slide across the snow.
Then with much excitement and jubilation they slid across the snow (using the poles to help push themselves) the then would then embark on automated transportation devices to carry themselves up the hill. The transportation devices at this particular offering site moved very slowly- allowing the cold to seep fully through their ceremonial robes- to offer much time for contemplation and respect.
Once reaching the top then would then throw themselves down the mountain at high speeds exalting in the rush and feeling of freedom.
They did this many times throughout the day stopping only once to eat a ceremonial meal. It appears that most all ‘Ski Resorts’ are known for serving only the best tasting and finest food served in the entire state- so as to not offend the gods.
The group spent the entire day, and left in very happy and high spirits. It seems these offering sites renew and refresh the person making the offering.We enjoyed ourselves very much as well and I regret the day being over.
28.0 this morning reaching a high of 37.0 at 5 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 21.9.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Wednesday January 3rd 2007

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/Rbmv7INRmXI/AAAAAAAAAH4/Dfpm0HWIaNI/s400/WeatherRockJan3rd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024240289658804594" />

The Weather Rock Report
Wednesday January 3rd 2007
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

The warming trend holds steady, 46.9 this morning that was also the high for today. 45.0 degrees at 4 PM this afternoon and as of this writing the temperature is 41.0 degrees.
The wind is the main reason for preserving the snow. This is my 36th report sent, the start of my 6th week of reports.
The weather welcomed the New Year with clear skies and a fresh breeze. 5.0 degrees this morning reaching a high of 28.9 at 4 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 14.0.
As estimated yesterday things were much more quiet and subdued. The family stayed inside all day today, it seems they were watching a projected images on a small glass screen this evening. They seem to be watching a historical report on the Russian Tsars. It appears the cold weather has inspired them to relate with another cold weather country.
I have heard from other reports that Russia is very similar to Montana in weather and terrain appearance.
The moon is very full with moonlight reflecting off the snow and although my photographic evidence does show it you can see the trees and mountains in the far distance quite clearly by the moonlight.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Sunday December 31st 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RZnP5IkjGSI/AAAAAAAAAHU/Tpz0JFU2Wko/s400/WeatherRockDec31st.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5015268240514029858" />

The Weather Rock Report
Sunday December 31st 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Cold and slightly breezy today, warming as the day progressed. 1.9 degrees this morning reaching a high of 21.9 at 5 PM today and as of this writing the temperature is 20.1 degrees.
There is a slight cloud cover, yet you can still see the outline of the semi full and very bright moon.
The family and all of the neighbors seem to be in high spirits and celebrating all day today.
It seems today is an additional day of celebration in continuation of the Christmas-holiday-festival season. (Why do humans go most of the year with very few holidays then try to cram as many as they can into a very short period?) It is a celebration of the year ending and a new one beginning. It seems to be their last chance to act as wild and odd as possible before they start the new year afresh.
Evening has done nothing to stop their revelry, after they finished their dinner the youngest 3 ventured outside to take another stab at sliding down the hill in front of my station. They trooped outside wearing thick clothes to protect themselves from the cold (which after only a few moments they started talking off layers claiming to be ‘hot’)
Then the neighbors started letting lose what seem to me to be like colored bits of lightening. This excited the two youngest and they started doing war chants, with much shouting and clapping of hands- possibly to try and intimidate the other tribes.
After over an hour of revelry they returned to their shelter. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot- yet I am assuming tomorrow shall be much quieter.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Saturday December 30th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RZnO-YkjGQI/AAAAAAAAAG8/57mHVAnjzWI/s400/WeatherRockDec30th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5015267231196715266" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday December 30th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Cold and clear again all day today. One of the younger human females took a walk and almost slipped several times, and I observed several human mobile metal transportation devices driving much to quickly and would swerve and almost lose control on the ice and snow.
I should mention the family that lives in the home where I am stationed seem to be very safe drivers.
The snow is quite beautiful and glitters brilliantly in the sunlight.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Thursday December 28th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RZnN1YkjGOI/AAAAAAAAAGk/o40T7BQN94Q/s400/WeatherRockDec28th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5015265977066264802" />

The Weather Rock Report
Thursday December 28th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Well well well, one word to describe today- SNOW.
Last night not 30 minutes after I had written my report the temperature dropped in the atmosphere and it stopped raining and started snowing. The front walk was shoveled no less then 5 times- the family was expecting the snow to stop early in the morning like it usually does but it continued falling and It did not stop until 12 PM today leaving 11 lovely inches of very light powdery clean snow.
In fact the snow is so deep we are both completely covered- I have added a notification device to help better show our location in the photographic evidence.
It cleared briefly around 2 PM then it quickly clouded over again.
This morning the temperature was 21.3 degrees reaching a high of 26.1 at 2 PM. The family has been spending most of their day inside playing with their new presents however they did venture out around noon and returned with no plastic carry bags. As of this writing the temperature is 16.8 degrees.
The family seems to be preparing for another visitor- but he is arriving tonight however yet no one wants to be awake when he arrives.
There is a wonderful feeling in the air tonight and I want to share with you a story I found which I feel explains this magical night much better then I could ever try to put into words.

Twas the Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Merry Christmas all! I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Saturday December 23rd 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RY4CvQ1Ea7I/AAAAAAAAAFo/JrG-irPDE2c/s400/WeatherRockDec23rd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5011946446304603058" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday December 23rd 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Christmas time’s a’coming! Yes I must admit the festivities of this Christmas-Holiday-Festival-Season have finally gotten to me. The general air of merriment is somewhat infectious and I truly am enjoying the spirit of the season.
Started cool this morning at 3.2 degrees gradually warming throughout the day reaching a high of 35.7 at 7 PM this evening. As of this writing the temperature is 30.9 degrees and there is a steady wind coming from the west. Overcast most of the day, clearing for a brief moment at 4 PM then clouding back over.
The family was gone most of the day- different members leaving then returning and then others leaving in their stead. This activity has been going all month almost and they will return with plastic carry bags with various printing on the outside. If they have no carry bags with them when they return they act very dejected and sorry indeed.
I assume it is some way of showing strength to the rest of the family. The more they gather it shows they are more worthy to be a part of the group. There is an added strange ritual of them trying to hide different bags from different members of the family- completely at random it seems.
Perhaps they do it out of kindness- they don’t wish for the other members to feel weaker. The holidays make people act quite strange indeed.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Friday December 22nd 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYzBWA1Ea6I/AAAAAAAAAFc/tGYSvCIBIsA/s400/WeatherRockDec22nd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5011593069280390050" />

The Weather Rock Report
Friday December 22nd 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Well it seems old wives tales can be true. There was a half inch of snow that fell this morning and it was very foggy and overcast most of the day clearing around 4:30 PM. The temperature was 23.1 reaching a high of 30.2 at 1 PM today. As of this writing the temperature is 7.5 degrees.
However the snow did melt before I was able to take photographic evidence of it so I have shown a different photograph then the usual.
The photograph is of the beautiful evening sunset- the photograph doesn’t give it justice but it turned out rather interesting all the same.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Thursday December 21st 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYt9NA1Ea5I/AAAAAAAAAFQ/wf-nuiL3W74/s400/WeatherRockDec21st.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5011236672894167954" />

The Weather Rock Report
Thursday December 21st 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Slightly overcast with the cloud cover building as the day progressed. 3.9 degrees this morning reaching a high of 32.0. So I wish you a happy/merry/good Winter Solstice in addition to the Christmas-Holiday-Festival Season.
There was a very red sunrise today and there is a saying ‘Red At Night, Sailors Delight, Red in the Morning Sailors Warning.’
The cloud cover seems to agree with this old adage and we shall see if the weather will change for the worse.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Wednesday December 20th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYoxEA1Ea4I/AAAAAAAAAFA/XokdroFm8ro/s400/WeatherRockDec20th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5010871480414923650" />

The Weather Rock Report
Wednesday December 20th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Sunny and partly hazy today. The temperature this morning was 3.1 reaching a high of 30.1 at 5PM today. As of this writing the temperature is 5.0 degrees.
The snow is slowly melting and evaporating off the mountains to the general dismay of the family. However it seems the sacred area called the ‘Ski Resort’ where they make their offerings to the weather gods (as mentioned in my previous report) is located on the other side of the mounting, thus safely protected from the unwanted warmth and sunlight.
Which I find very amusing- the lack of warmth and sunlight is protecting the snow and cold they need to make their offerings, yet the cold is what they wish for the gods to take away in the first place- which started the entire reason for their offerings to begin with.
The ‘resort’ however has been deemed unworthy by the local priests to open until the 22nd of December causing some dismay to many. Perhaps I will be able to travel to this most sacred place and give a report sometime in the near future.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Tuesday December 19th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYm4HA1Ea2I/AAAAAAAAAEs/ePk9AYdgBjI/s400/WeatherRockDec19th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5010738491047570274" />

The Weather Rock Report
Tuesday December 19th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Sunny with brief moments of cloud cover today. Temperature this morning was 3.0 reaching a high of 28.4 at 6PM this evening. As of this writing the temperature is 10.2 degrees.
The mountains in the distance are often used by humans in an outdoor job involving traveling great distances for no reason whatsoever other then to (I suppose) test their skills at navigating paths to narrow for humans with their lumbering feet and ungainly bodies to traverse.
Sometimes once they reach the top they will strap thin long trees (that have been smoothed and painted in bright colors used as good luck symbols) and throw themselves downhill. Others will try and cross level areas in those devices.
I assume it is some sort of offering to their gods- a way of pleading for the warmer weather to arrive- because they always seem quite despondent until enough snow arrives for them to begin their trials.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Monday December 18th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYd9hw1Ea1I/AAAAAAAAAEg/nWEssgIjfRI/s400/WeatherRockDec18th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5010111129469610834" />

The Weather Rock Report
Monday December 18th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Cold and slight hazy and cloudy today. –5.1 this morning reaching a high of 20.1 at 4PM As of this writing the temperature is 3.9 degrees.
To add to the list of animal wildlife 5 Pheasants were spotted on the road this afternoon. This morning the temperature was -2.0 degrees reaching a high of 15.4 at 4 PM today and as of this writing the temperature is 0.0.
Nothing much to report except- except for the sighting of two different wildlife creatures.
The first sighting (of which I do have photographic evidence) is of the great American Bald Eagle. A magnificent bird- I am afraid my photographic device just doesn’t give it credit. However I did not take this amazing photograph myself- I must give credit to the father figure in the household. They seem to borrow my photographic device at odd intervals yet I was able to acquire this photograph for my own records. (And I was very happy he was able to show this magnificent bird.)
The second sighting of which I have no evidence solves the mystery of the strange animal tracks seem in previous photographs. Late this afternoon I saw what I think was a Red Fox. (It may be another breed of Fox but it was most defiantly a Fox.) It hopped happily by my station before heading off to who knows where. I will let you know if I see it again.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Saturday December 16th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYTqRg1EazI/AAAAAAAAAEI/6mHDC0ug8P8/s400/WeatherRockDec16th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5009386272134032178" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday December 16th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

Very cold weather, the temperature this morning was 17.1 degrees, reaching a high of 27.0 at 2 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 10.0 degrees. Then with no warning what so ever by 8:30 AM the temperature had dropped to 33.0 degrees and it was snowing heavily. The wind was blowing and it was a blizzard condition. In less then an hour 2 inches of heavy wet snow fell with high winds from the north. Then the snow and wind stopped by 10 AM and then it stayed overcast and cold all day.
The high was 52.1 at 5 AM this morning. Amazing the change weather can cause.
The bit of snow that melting during the few hours it was above freezing has now frozen solid leaving quite dangerous driving conditions. A of this writing the temperature is now 21.6 degrees.
This just shows that one should never become comfortable with the weather. And it also appears that an ancient archaic chant can work wonders when applied correctly. I hesitate to say the words again so I will just urge you to consult my last report if you are unfamiliar with what I am speaking of.
My new pupil was delighted with the change however. As of this writing the rain has stopped- yet I am assuming it will continue on and off through the night.
The drivers seem happy that the weather is warm enough to keep the rain from freezing on the roads causing safer driving conditions.
It seems everyone is wishing for snow however and I seem to hear the song “I’m Dreaming Of A White Christmas” very often.
The family set up their Christmas-Holiday-Festival-Tree. The lights from it are now shining on the front yard quite prettily.
I would also like to introduce you to my newest partner, ‘The Weather Rockette’ She is in training right now and won’t be making her own reports until she has finished her instruction period. The two youngest left briefly, making a mad rush to the car. At least the two were smart enough to open the car doors 1 at a time. The driver got in a quickly shut the door and the passenger followed. I have seen not so clever people try to open the doors at the same time, often causing the car doors to fly open with the sudden change in pressure at arm jarring speeds. (yes the wind was blowing that much)
They returned an hour later and parked left of their normal spot trying to use the house as a shield. They opened the trunk and were in the process of removing unknown items in plastic carry bags when the trunk was blown down onto the young mans head. Luckily he was wearing a cranium protection device so no injury was sustained.

34.1 degrees this morning, reaching a high of 50.0 at 5 PM this afternoon. As of this writing the temperature is 42.4.
The wind coupled with the heat has caused almost 100% of the snow to melt.
Dark clouds with sudden bursts of bright clear blue sky made for a very dramatic day.
It is still windy and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock

Tuesday December 12th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYDp1-j3S_I/AAAAAAAAADY/X8kqZ9hiBIs/s400/WeatherRockDec12th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5008259899171752946" />

The Weather Rock Report
Tuesday December 12th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

The weather started cold at 24.9 this morning, reaching 44.1 at noon. The temperature started dropping, and it dropped ten degrees yet in the past hour the temperature had risen drastically. As of this writing the temperature is 42.1.
The only snow that is left is mostly in the shade. The roads have dried, and although it is technically ‘warm’ it feels quite chilly. Windy and gusty all day. The snow is very, very crunchy and has a plastic like sheen to it.
The animal tracks are in the process of melting out leaving large crater like shapes in the ground reveling the still green grass underneath.
There are dark clouds forming to the west yet unless the temperature drops we may experience rain.
It appears the guest has departed and returned to his home, the family seems very quiet today. And I must admit I do miss his daily walks past my station.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Monday December 11th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RYDpdOj3S-I/AAAAAAAAADM/KjBaf1W1ZXQ/s400/WeatherRockDec11th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5008259473969990626" />

The Weather Rock Report
Monday December 11th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

I was startled this morning by the frantic rushing of the family leaving the house quite early and obviously in a hurry. Then they stayed away most of the day returning at 3:30 PM and then leaving not ten minutes later. They were gone until 6:20 PM and again not ten minutes later they were gone until 8:15 PM. As of this writing they are in the house and I think they are there for the night. It seems to be the last day with their guest visiting and it seems they were trying to make the most of it.

30.1 degrees this morning with the temperature dropping to 29.0 at noon and as of this writing the temperature is 17.3.

Cold and slightly overcast all day.

The tracks going by me were made by an unidentified animal. As of this writing the temperature is 23.2 degrees.
I apologize for the lack of a photo, I had taken photographic evidence this morning and then the family using the house kidnapped my photography device (for the own means under the flimsy excuse of needing it for a ‘day trip’) and have not returned it to its rightful place.
Very peaceful all day, yet when they return I expect the usual frantic going too and fro.
The family installed some Christmas lights (or Holiday lights as some say- why must humans name the same thing different names?) on the bushes near by where I am stationed to help celebrate the season.
I don’t understand why when they never seem to be at home during the day and at night when the lights are at their prettiest they stay indoors unable to see them.
Nevertheless I am enjoying them immensely.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Friday December 8th 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RXpA-tkKIDI/AAAAAAAAAC0/sRBm5ywtUNE/s400/WeatherRockDec8th.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5006385381903048754" />

The Weather Rock Report
Friday December 8th 2006
Location: The Bozeman House Front Yard, Bozeman, MT

The weather is warming and the snow continues to melt slightly. 22 this morning reaching a high of 36.5 at 1 PM. The individual flakes and melted and refroze to form small ice pellets.

The family seems to be spending much time away from the house. (Why do people stay arrive somewhere and then seem to want to spend their time anywhere but where they came to stay in the first place…?)

I head them talking about visiting a museum and seeing many different forms of rocks. That for me would be the perfect job. Staying indoors, displayed lovingly for all to see, teaching people about the world and the way it was. Of course it is vexing to read all these ‘theories’ and such about the age of the world. Why don’t they just ask us rocks personally? But alas they think just because they can flit from one place to another it makes them a ‘high form’ However I do enjoy them for they are very entertaining to watch.

It was very bright and sunny all day today yet there are clouds that could be signaling snow tonight. The temperature was 21 degrees in the morning reaching a high of 37.2 at 2:30 PM. As of this writing the temperature is now 36.9.

I am always surprised every year at how the temperature can fluctuate so much in just a weeks time. This time last week it was 8 degrees and snowing.

Slight melting of the snow, my ‘snow hat’ is shrinking and perhaps I will now start working on my tan.

This afternoon the two younger members of the cabin family ventured outside and soon great crashing and banging noises shook thought the forest.

The had acquired two sleds (different from the ones used during their sledding expedition), these ones were rectangle shaped, long and made out of brightly colored materials. One was orange and one was blue. The two had managed to pull the skin off what I had assumed to be a large snow colored boulder but was instead a large pile of small limbless trees hidden under a gray cloth like fabric.

The then took these limbless trees (I should say they were the proper width of a large tree but were very short- no more then 16 inches long) and started piling them on the sleds. Then they would take these trees restack them by the house and return to the pile that was stacked quite a distance away. After many trips they pulled out a few implements of destruction (A strangely shaped piece of iron on a wooden stick) and started splitting the trees. Fascinating to watch.

To give my superiors an all around better view of the weather in this state I shall be moving 95 miles southeast tomorrow to the town of ‘Bozeman’ Tell them they needn’t worry about supplying my transportation I have managed a way to travel myself without worrying the higher-ups.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Sunday December 3rd 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RXOwiTA64mI/AAAAAAAAABs/23XyLKLiPxg/s400/WeatherRockDec3rd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5004537714204926562" />

The Weather Rock Report
Sunday December 3rd 2006
Location: The Townsend Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

The temperature started cold this morning (at least compared to the last few days) at 11.1 degrees. We finally broke the ‘30’ barrier at 2 PM today with a high of 31.4. As of this writing the temperature is 27.0 with high clouds. The moon is very bright and it is illuminating the tress most prettily.
Not much to report today. No wild beings invading my territory (animal, human or otherwise) Fist day with no snow flurries in quite sometime.
The snow is back to being very dry, yet now it will ‘squeak’ when someone walks on it and is now the texture of course sugar. (I have a cousin who hails from Mt. Kilauea in Hawaii and he knows all about the sugar industry, and he wasn’t afraid to share how knowledgeable he is. He loved to share his wealth of information at reunions until the accident. Well it wasn’t much of an accident, as it is a rocks duty to stay where they are placed and after the most recent explosion we haven’t heard from him. We assume he is helping form the latest bit of shoreline in Hawaii. The perfect job for him. I am sure he will have much to share in a few thousand years or so.)
Anyway! As always I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Saturday December 2nd, 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RXJOsDA64kI/AAAAAAAAABU/8VwZFbQoo00/s400/WeatherRockDec2nd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5004148654592418370" />

The Weather Rock Report
Saturday December 2nd 2006
Location: The Townsend Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

The morning started overcast and cool at 11.7 degrees. Reaching a high of 19 degrees and as of this writing the temperature is 12.4.

It stayed overcast all day with very light snow flurries throughout the day.

Last yesterday afternoon I heard a large crashing sound though the bushes. This continued on for several minutes and I must admit my first impression of it being a large animal was sadly incorrect. It was a giant fowl.

Now you see during my stay on this property I have seen black bears, deer, beavers and many other animals large and small but I have never before seen real true large wild turkey. The beast finally showed itself yet still managed to stay just far enough away to prevent me from acquiring a decent photograph of it.

I was hoping to acquire a better photograph today but the wild flow refused to show itself. Hence I will show the only evidence I have. I do apologize for the picture but with me being a rock it is somewhat limiting of my ability to move around quickly and take photographs. (This usually does not bother me except in extreme cases such as this.)

And even more vexing just as the sun had managed to finish it’s job for the day the turkey’s harem showed up. I counted 3 more before they disappeared for the night.

No luck also on the reported ‘snowball fight’ two of the family members, the father figure and the young lady left very early this morning and did not return until late tonight.

The moon is full and is shining though the clouds giving a very interesting ‘backlit’ effect.

I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RXJPIjA64lI/AAAAAAAAABc/ZIuXV9Z5Yek/s400/Turkey.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5004149144218690130" />

Friday December 1st 2006

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ERnE6qJkFeQ/RXDdLTA64jI/AAAAAAAAABI/A34cVI0_gu4/s400/WeatherRockDec1st.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5003742372161053234" />

The Weather Rock Report
Friday December 1st 2006
Location: The Townsend Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

The day started overcast and gray and managed to stay that way throughout the day. Temperature of 22.1 in the morning reaching a high of 28.6 at 1 PM and at this writing the temperature is 18.5.

Very very light and fine snow flurries have fallen at scattered intervals throughout the day, just trace amounts however.

The snow is melting slightly (even though the temperature has not risen over 29 degrees since the first snowfall 6 days ago.) Perhaps the cause of some of the lost snow was the wind gusts yesterday.

The snow is not as dry as it was before. It is now damp enough to be termed ‘perfect snowball weather’ by the family living in the cabin. I have no idea what this means but as I am stationed here and in the cold voices carry quite clearly I am sure I will ‘dig to the bottom’ of this mystery. (pardon the pun, the holiday season is making me feel more festive and merry.)

It is now the first of December and it appears a new wild animal have moved into the area. I will post my report tomorrow with more information as it comes.

The Weather Rock

Thursday November 30th 2006

The Weather Rock Report
Thursday November 30th 2006
Location: The Townsend Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

The morning started quite warm, 24 degrees yet it was tempered by a medium wind that was blowing.
The wind would arrive in gusts that would blow the snow violently from the trees into a whirling white vapor (almost resembling smoke, how fine it was) that would dance and swirl before falling to the ground. Very dramatic.
Reached a high of 29 at noon and the owners of the cabin braved the wind and trooped outside to take part in something they called ‘sledding’ Taking a heavy round ‘sled’ they would walk up a hill then throw themselves down it hoping (I am assuming) to reach a high speed while falling down the hill.
It somewhat resembles them trying to reproduce the feeling of being in a a rockslide. I don’t understand why they take joy in this- I have been involved in a real one and I assure you it isn’t pleasant.
They then would turn and go back up the hill and throw themselves down again. After a half hour they finally abandoned their sport citing ‘sheer exhaustion’
The wind stopped at 3 PM and was replaced by light snow flurries that lasted until 5 PM leaving around a half inch of new snow.
As of this writing the temperature is once again 24 degrees.
I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Wednesday November 29th 2006

The Weather Rock Report

Wednesday November 29th 2006

Location: The Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

Not much weather to report today. This morning started sunny and stayed that way throughout the day. The temperature was –5 in the morning, then it warmed up though the day to 5.7 degrees and as of this writing the temperature is now –0.7

The ‘heat wave’ as it may be called did cause some melting of snow from the roof of the cabin beside where I am stationed. I fine it fascinating how snow can melt at 5 degrees. The roof must absorb the sunlight and warn the snow enough to cause it to drip off the roof. Yet once it started to fall it froze almost instantly causing unique ice formations on the bushes adjacent.

I have included a larger picture showing better my surroundings. You may inform my superiors that though bushes surround me, I was placed so that they do not actually block any weather coming my way. (They do prove to be quite aesthetically pleasing however.)

As always, I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Tuesday November 28th, 2006

The Weather Rock Report
Tuesday November 27th, 2006
Location: The Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

Snowed most of last night then scattered snow throughout the day clearing up around 4 pm. Estimated snowfall of 4 total inches.
The morning started cold at –14 (yes minus 14) reached a high at noon of 0.2 and at the time of the writing the temperature had dropped down to –10.6 and is still dropping.
The snow is very dry and makes a sort of squeaky and crunchy sound when the owners braved the chill and came outside today. Very similar to sound made while walking on a rubber raft.
(I know about rafting during my brief summer spent working for a whitewater rafting company. Thankfully that is over now- it is very hard to just stay in place while a raft carrying 20 humans comes barreling at you. I am enjoying this current post much more.)
Picture acquired at 3:30 PM.
There is now a semi full moon reflecting off the snow, illuminating the view and casting a blue-ish light over everything.
I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock

Monday November 27, 2006

The Weather Rock Report
Monday November 27, 2006
Location: The Cabin Front Yard- Townsend, MT

After enjoying a long and uneventful fall the weather has finally turned into what some would call a ‘proper’ winter.
The weather today was cold, 1 inch of soft dry fluffy snow had fallen the day before, then there was scattered snow throughout the day and as of this writing the snow is now coming down quite heavily.
No wind and the temperature is 2.5 degrees
I am torn between missing the warmth and enjoying the insulation of the snow.
The owners of the land I stay on have returned and were last seen cavorting though the snow and talking loudly about ‘Christmas’ and a guest that seems to be coming soon.
I will post my next report tomorrow.

The Weather Rock
