The Final Weather Rock Report
Thursday January 25th 2007
Location: The Townsend Cabin, Townsend MT

Again a completely beautiful day today. It appears I have experienced practically every facet Montana has to offer from sub zero freezing snow to stunningly beautiful clear big skies matched with pleasant breezes.
As much as I have enjoyed sending these reports this is my 60th report, this shall be my final report for this season. I hope I have giving perhaps a small insight into the ever changing weather and wildlife in this wild and rugged state, and I hope you have enjoyed reading them even half as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I thank you all for your patience and support in this most fascinating endeavor to provide both written and photographic evidence of Montana’s weather.
I have made a good new friend in The Weather Rockette, and I know she has the potential to go far- perhaps in spite of my humble training.
(Note from the Weather Rockette: I cannot express what a wonderful job The Weather Rock has done with my training. I look forward to spending the next months and hopefully years with him.)

I am also happy to have tried to give you some insight as to the winter rituals practiced by the ever mysterious ‘Human Kind’ They perhaps will always find new and amazing ways to entertain and confuse me. But that is just the way they area.
I am attaching two photographs- one showing the weather for today and the second one of my favorites which I feel shows the beauty of Montana in a slight way- as photographs can never truly capture the majesty of it.
So it is with a semi heavy heart I give you the final weather report- Cooler this morning, 23.0 however reaching a high of 46.9 at 5 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 28.0.

I will hold all of you in deep esteem and I with you all the best.

The Weather Rock Report

A beautiful clear and spring like day today. No wind, clouds and 40+ degrees makes it seems more like fall then Spring (spring can be damp and windy) and the family seems to be enjoying the weather. No outdoor activities today however. Them seem to be busy working inside. 28.8 degrees this morning reaching a high of 50.0 4 PM and as of this writing the temperature 30.9.

I will post my next report tomorrow,

The Weather Rock Report

Partly cloudy today, with clouds thickening as the day progressed. At around 3 Pm very fine partials of snow feel for around ten minutes (more closely resembling ash from a chimney then snow) however in the mid to high 30 degree weather they melted immediately.
The family seemed very busy today, moving boxes, running machines that pull dirt out of the house and store in a small bag, shaking out large thick square cloths and holding fowl smelling smaller clothes in their hands. No fires tonight and the coyotes seem to be out in force. I can hear their yips and yowls quite clearly.

The Weather Rock Report

Cool today and slightly cloudy. It feels colder then the previous day due to the higher humidity and heavier breezes I suppose. 34.0 this morning reaching a high of 41.0 at 4 PM and as of this writing the temperature is 33.1. Perhaps there will be snow in the forecast, yet the clouds would need to thicken up more before that would happen.
The youngest son spend the late afternoon in the outbuilding right next to the house. There was much banging and sawing then after dark he and the father figure carried out a giant contraption. It was like a giant bow laying crossways attached to a stand of some sort, and when pulled back it shot a wooden stick 15 yards across the lawn. He called it a ‘ballista’.
I don’t see how this could be helpful in killing animals for food as it is much to bulky and noisy. The family was impressed with his success however.

The Weather Rock Report

Not much to report on the weather front today. 27.0 degrees this morning reaching a high of 35.1 at 4 PM and as of this writing it is 30.9 and clear.
The family came out yet again this evening to continue their sacred rituals and I was able to obtain photographic evidence of them this time. Note the burning sticks in their hands- it appears they created them today (an improvement on the ones made yesterday, they lasted twice as long and burned brighter) and there was much excitement and jubilation. They can now use these sticks as protection from predators and lighting up the darkness. However they seem to take more enjoyment by swinging them around wildly in a show of power, and noise delights them also. They seemed to enjoy themselves very much again today, and we enjoyed watching their wild antics.

I will post my next report tomorrow,
